In a culture where originality is highly valued, recording
artist, performer, clinician, and composer Ben Dean is a stellar
talent. He began his career on a full scholarship to the
prestigious Hartt School of Music and had the privilege of studying
under Mickey Reisman, an internationally renowned violin instructor.
In addition to his conservatory training, Ben is a highly
accomplished recording artist whose work will be featured in the
upcoming film “Brothers Bloom” (2008) which is starring the
Oscar winning actor Adrian Brody.
Ben has performed in front of audiences of over 15,000 people, recently
opening for notable acts such as Coldplay and the Steve Miller Band.
As an educator, Ben is currently on faculty at the Avon Old Farms
School. He has been a guest clinician for the Hartt School, ASTA String
Fling, and numerous public school districts.
As a composer, Ben has scored the music for live performances with
the Citi-Arts Dance Ensemble and had his original compositions
premiered at the opening of the Hartford Convention Center.
He is a featured musician with the Greater Hartford Arts Council,
Artist in Residence with the West Hartford Montessori School and
maintains a private studio of students, many of which have gone on to
win competitions for musical excellence.
Ben explains what he does in his own words:"This
type of performing is my absolute specialty. I average 100+ engagements
per year. The standard wedding package with Atmosphere Productions is
based on a 2-hour time frame to cover both the Ceremony & Cocktail
Hour or Cocktail Hour & Dinner. A state-of-the-art wireless sound
system recreates a concert hall sound for groups ranging from 30 to
1,000. This allows everyone to hear the music and fully enjoy it!" "During Cocktails I do a
lively up-tempo mix of Jazz, Classical, Latin, and Pop music to set the
atmosphere as your guests arrive. It never fails to make an immediate
positive impression on the guests. If you prefer to keep the music to a
particular style during this time, I am open to ideas."
"After the introductions
and toast, I offer a musical toast (usually a romantic ballad) to the
Bride & Groom. I introduce myself and then announce to your guests
that I'll be around to all of the tables after first playing a special
request for the Bride & Groom.
From there, I go immediately from table-to-table taking requests from
your guests. This is where the excitement builds and people inevitably
begin clapping along to the music and cheering after each piece."
"My repertoire covers over
500 tunes and I am highly skilled at improvising. I encourage special
requests for parents, grandparents, birthdays, anniversaries."
"I take my strolling
performances very seriously and realize that you get only one chance to
do this right. With this in mind, I look forward to being part of your
Wedding Day!"

Bridging the Gap is Ben’s latest CD release and features a compilation of his
favorite fiddle tunes from over the years. Traditional acoustic music
is the dominant style for the album but other musical influences are
found embedded within the arrangements. To illustrate this, Coleraine
is an Irish jig redone in a world music fashion with bongos and eastern
scales incorporated into the solo passage. Faith Unlocks the Door
has a rich classical sound with twin fiddle harmony. Minor Swing is
an upbeat tune with roots in gypsy jazz music. The enjoyment of hearing
all these styles coalesce into an outstanding studio performance is
the result of a first-rate approach that combines classical training
and folk music.
